The Tourism Industry
Tourism encompasses more than just travel.
It encompasses all the jobs required to help the tourist experience. These generally include extremely transferable skills that you can use for the rest of your life i.e. social, interpersonal skills that require tactful patience when dealing with real-time customers and guests.
These skills will hold you in good stead for the rest of your life, no matter what industry you are working in later. Experience as a local tour guide, for example, may help your CV stand out in other managerial and public speaking jobs. Tour guides are expected to provide tourists with interesting geographical or historical information, similar to what a teacher does in the classroom!
The Hospitality Industry
The hospitality industry covers a vast range of job opportunities for the fresh HSC student.
Majorly set up in hotels and restaurants all over the world, you can choose to be any of guest relations managers, event managers, concierges, chefs, waiters, travel counsellors, food and beverage managers, facilities managers, housekeeping, and a bellboy.
The great part about these jobs is that your loyalty to these establishments gives you the opportunity to transfer from branch to branch once you have attained a competent skill level in the company. Given that hotels usually are in a chain, you can apply all over the country at your place of choice and even enjoy lifetime discounts.
The Airline Industry
The airline industry has several job positions you can fill.
The most popular position is that of a cabin crew member. The benefits of being in the cabin crew include incomparable travel benefits all over the world (depending on your airline's scope) and the fact that you do not need to commit to a rigorous and expensive technical education to earn a lot of money.
Students would enjoy inspecting a list of the many benefits of this job, which include living in some of the best hotels, receiving food discounts between flights, and spending time in foreign cities. And what about the job itself? It's easy to understand.
The Armed Forces
If you are selected by the armed forces, you can look forward to a fulfilling life with complete job security, free accommodation, and countless other commercial and tax benefits.
Most general duty positions in the armed forces require a series of exams under the government recruitment agency called the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC). Check its website for information on when these exams are held, and their concomitant requirements.
The NDA Exam (National Defence Academy) is one of the UPSC’s popular, common entrance exams, which will make you eligible for all three defence bodies: the army, navy, and air force.
Most of these exams will include a medical test, a physical Test, and a written Test. Make sure you are relatively fit, have a secondary-school knowledge of math and physics, and are ready for a consistent daily regimen.
The Merchant Navy
Fresh secondary school graduates can also get hired on a merchant ship, a staple for trade and logistics in the modern world.
Work is balanced across 6 months a year, where the employee will be away from home and family. It mixes daily routine with travel. Although the majority of the job will be in the middle of the sea with only workmates to socialize with, you can also choose to get onto a cruise ship, where the entertainment options are greater.
You could choose to work in the kitchen, bars, restaurants, and in guest relations.
Business Process Outsourcing
Companies all over the world need surplus labour for customer relations, troubleshooting, data entry, and several other services. They outsource these services to Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) firms where you can apply.
India is among the leading countries for BPOs in the world, and this gives Indian students a wide pool of opportunities after their HSC exams. These jobs generally require an initial month of on-the-job training, which will require candidates to streamline their interpersonal and communication skills for the industry.
A career in these 6 sectors is ideal if you enjoy learning about different cultures. It will only take one step to gain entry into this industry: enrolling in hospitality and tourism
management courses. If you want to work in the airline industry, you can enrol in an air hostess training institute or a cabin crew training institute.
Amigo Academy is one such company that has training centres in Mumbai, Thane, and Pune. For more information on a career in hospitality, tourism, and in the airlines, please contact us.
